In India, the elephant is considered as a majestic and holy animal since the prehistoric era. The supremacy of elephants is well illustrated throughout the Hindu mythology.  Elephants have been a huge force of strength in many wars. Legends say that during “Samudra Manthan” (churning of the ocean), the Gods were fortunate enough to receive “Airavata”, the elephant that later became the divine vehicle or “Vahana” of Lord Indra.

Various competitions are organized so that the tourists and local people enjoy it to the full. The elephants are engaged in races, polo matches and a tug of war with men to enthrall the spectators. They are at their best during this festival and you can find them enjoying the attention and cheering from the crowd. The elephant keepers or mahouts decorate their elephants from head to toe for the “Best Decorated Elephant” contest, which is a major feature of this cultural fest.

Tourists witness special dance and talent shows by the elephants. Famous folk dancers and local musicians participate in this festival amidst colorful lightings that add to the overall entertainment of the spectators.  This festival also showcases the glorious royalty of Jaipur and allows the tourists be a part of it. Tourists can take elephant rides and play Holi sitting atop the elephants giving them a never-like-before experience.
